Christmas Vacation

Standard

Today starts the beginning of my travels for Christmas vacation.  We have about two and a half weeks and I will be taking advantage of most of the days.  I will be visiting four countries in fifteen days.  While it’s going to be weird not being home for Christmas and New Years I am excited to travel and to see places I have never seen and never dreamed about seeing.  These are the countries I will be visiting:

1. Ireland

Ireland

I will be in Dublin Ireland from today, the 21st to the 26th.  I’m staying with my friend Niamh and will be spending Christmas with her family and friends.

2. Czech Republic

Prague

From the 26th to the 30th I will be in Prague.  I have heard from many people that Prague is absolutely beautiful and cannot wait to go. There are many fascinating and interesting places to visit within Prague, such as the Prague Castle, the Jewish Quarter and the old city. Czech Republic is also home to the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, in which 70% of the beer brewed today can trace it’s origins.

3. Belgium

Ghent2

From the 30th to the 3rd I will be in Ghent, Belgium.  Ghent is located about halfway between the capital Brussels and the historic old town of Bruges.  I will be staying with somebody from couchsurfing and celebrating New Years Eve here.  Ghent is a medieval city with amazing medieval architectural and is home of the Ghent altarpiece, one of the most famous and altarpieces in the world. I hope to take a day trip to Bruges and to Brussels.

4. Netherlands

Amsterdam

My last stop on the journey, from the 3rd to the 6th with be Amsterdam.  Amsterdam is full of many things to do and see, but one of the things I am really looking forward to is visiting the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum.  I will also be staying with somebody with couchsurfing, so hopefully they will have the opportunity to show me around.

I’m extremely excited for this trip.  I am even more excited to see all of these cities during the holidays because many of them are beautifully decorated for Christmas.
